According to Bloomberg, though reportedly will sell its chip manufacturing business, but in the next five years, IBM plans to spend 30 billion dollars on semiconductor research and development. According to a statement released by IBM, IBM will provide funding for two projects in order to create smaller, more powerful chips. This chip can be as IBM's Watson technology used in the system, and the development of semiconductor components other than silicon material. Watson technology can analyze the data to plain English. This investment highlights IBM, while continuing the development of semiconductor technology, but on the other hand was ready to split its chip factory plans. According to people familiar with the matter said last month, IBM has been close to a deal to sell its chip manufacturing business to Global Foundries. The main interest of Global Foundries lies in obtaining engineering technology and intellectual property IBM chip sector. One person familiar with the matter said in February this year, IBM wants to maintain control over their use of chip design and intellectual property.
