According to Reuters, Samsung Electronics said today they will spend $ 1.9 billion in construction of a new logic chip production line to meet the growing demand of the processor in smart phones and tablet PCs.Samsung said the new production line will use 300 mm wafers and 20 nanometer and 14 nanometer process technology.Due to rapid growth of the mobile device market, the Korean company is actively expanding its production of logic chips. The market research firm, Gartner estimates that for smart phones and tablet PC system chip market will grow from $ 23 billion last year to $ 59 billion in 2016.The new line will help meet the growing demand for smart mobile solutions, the company hopes to complete its construction before the end of next year, Samsung said in a statement.Samsung also decided recently to set up first chip factory in China, the production of NAND flash memory chips. Analysts expect the plant will be about $ 4-5000000000000 won (about 3.4 to 4.2 billion U.S. dollars).Announced before the construction of a new logic chip production line, Samsung shares rose 5.2 percent, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index rose 2.6 percent. |
