AMD's senior vice president and chief technology officer ,Mark Papermaster said that there will be major changes in chip production process for AMD in 2013 ,they will completely switch from the existing SOI fabrication process to 28nmBulkCMOS process. As for the GPU manufacturing, AMD does not intend to make any change. Southern Islands series of GPUs have already used TSMC 28nm process, in Autumn AMD will launch island series GPU which will continue to use the same process, the Island series GPU has entered the sample pre-production stage, in the end of 2012, it will start mass production, at the first quarter in 2013 it will be released .For Heterogeneous system architecture (HSA) and Union, whether to deal with competition between Intel and NVIDIA , MarkPapermaster said the company's collaboration with ARM is mainly to meet customer demand for comprehensive functions, rapid product development, not for any particular competitor.As to market speculation, whether AMD will launch ARM-based processor or not, MarkPapermaster pointed out, the AM and ARM will only focus on the Union, as well as APU and ARMTrustZone security technology integration between heterogeneous systems architecture (HSA). In addition to the existing foundry partners, AMD does not exclude cooperations with other foundry in the future, as long as these OEMs can allow AMD to benefit in the product foundry. |
