According to the latest report of market research firm, IMS, in 2011 the power semiconductor market grew 9% to approximately $ 18 billion. Infineon topped the list for the ninth consecutive year. IMS said, in the first half of 2011, the power semiconductor market performed well, but at the second half of the year due to inventory adjustments in the demand, the market started to slow down in the third quarter and fourth quarter which fell sharply. In 2011, the power module market performance is much better than the power device market. Power device market grew by only 3%, and at the same time, the power module market for solar energy, automotive and consumer electronics applications has a substantial increase of 32%. The growth of the main driving force of the power module market stems is from the smooth development of solar energy and automotive markets, and separation of the poor performance of the device is derived from the consumer electronics and white goods market fluctuations. Infineon is still supplier of power discrete and power module. The other vendors with growth of market share are module experts, Mitsubishi Electric, Fuji Electric and Semikron. Richard Eden, IMS's senior market analyst, said: "Mitsubishi Electric's outstanding performance in the power module market, making it narrow the gap with Infineon on the overall power semiconductor market." It is worth mentioning that in 2011,in the power module market, the share of Japanese manufacturers rose from 48 percent in 2010 to 51%. |
