According to Reuters, the CEO of U.S. semiconductor company, Micron Technology , Mark Decken (Mark Durcan,) said NAND flash memory chips will be rise in price early next year due to reduced production. This chip is currently widely used in tablet PCs and smart phones. Decken told Reuters on Monday: "I am optimistic about the price of NAND chips in the first half of next year, but it is difficult to predict in short-term." Toshiba announced that it will cut 30% of the NAND chip production to stabilize prices in July after its overcapacity led to oversupply. Due to the hot selling of Apple's iPad, iPhone and other devices, chip manufacturers have increased the capacity of the NAND chip, the chip oversupply lead to the decline of the price this year.Decken said Microsoft upgraded Windows8 platform in August this year which will allow Intel to launch more ultra notebook for the platform, increased production of solid-state hard drive will drive the demand for NAND chips. |
