According to foreign media reports, Texas Instruments, announced local time on Wednesday exit production smart phone application chip business, the company will lay off 1,700 employees in the wireless chip business sector - accounting for about 5% of the total number of employees worldwide, in order to reduce costs. Texas Instruments announced in September that the company will stop OMAP mobile applications for smart phones and Tablet PC chip business investment. Texas Instruments face enormous competitive pressures in the field of mobile applications ,in market were Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung , Samsung and Apple have self-developed mobile applications chip, rather than purchase from Texas Instruments and other vendors. Texas Instruments plan to sell OMAP chip in a market without high requirements, including automobile manufacturers and other industrial customers. Texas Instruments, the company expects about $ 325 million of costs on layoffs, most of which will be reflected in the quarterly earnings report. Texas Instruments is expected by the end of 2013 the company's cost will have about $ 450 million annual reduction. Texas Instruments said the previously announced fourth quarter results are not expected to contain these costs. Texas Instruments has 35,000 employees worldwide. Regular trading on Wednesday, Texas Instruments shares fell 2 percent, to close at $ 28.76. |
